Paediatric rheumatology out-patient clinic

The paediatric rheumatology out-patient clinic at the Charité University Hospital is one of the largest of its kind in Germany. An inter-disciplinary team of physicians, specialised nursing personnel, physiotherapists and social workers care for the young patients with the aim of providing treatment that is successful in the long-term. In-patient diagnosis, therapy adjustment and monitoring is also available.

Close interdisciplinary cooperation with other paediatric disciplines, such as:

  • Radiology (a special MRT scanner for children)
  • Orthopaedics
  • Dermatology
  • Nephrology
  • Paediatric neurology (central nervous system vasculitis)
  • phthalmology (uveitis centre)
  • Infection immunology (immune system defects)
  • Orthodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery

Special clinics

  • Fever syndromes / recurrent fever
  • Pain syndromes / fibromyalgia / reflex sympathetic dystrophy
  • Hand-over clinic with internist rheumatologists
  • Psoriasis clinic
  • Structured patient training

We also cooperate in the treatment of the following conditions:

  • Chronic articular complaints and all forms of juvenile idiopathic arthritis
  • Joint inflammation related to infections e.g. Lyme arthritis, reactive arthritis, rheumatic fever
  • Connective tissue disease, e.g. Lupus erythematosus, dermatomyositis, scleroderma
  • Vascular inflammation, e.g. Henoch-Schoenlein purpura, Kawasaki syndrome, Takayasu's arteritis
  • Fever syndrome, e.g. familial Mediterranean fever, PFAPA syndrome, TRAPS syndrome
  • Unexplained fever
  • Pain syndromes, e.g. generalised pain amplification syndrome, chronic regional pain syndrome, fibromyalgia, reflex dystrophy
